As far as I understand it, Poplar Harca were unable to afford the cost of refurbishing Balfron Tower without selling it on, and have ensured that all former residents are housed locally in good quality Poplar Harca homes. They assure us that if there had been any alternative, they would have taken it.
I and Tower Hamlets First fully support the principle of good quality social housing for all those who need it, and we’re working hard to ensure that the thousands of new social, living rent and affordable homes we promised are created. We are also looking to introduce a registration scheme to ensure responsible behaviour from landlords, and campaigning to regional and central government on the importance of solving the housing crisis.
I deplore the climate of privatisation, welfare reform and soaring costs that are displacing Londoners and we’re doing all in our power to manage change in the interests of local people.
We are always there to listen to residents – please do not hesitate to contact me or the Lead Member for Housing if you have any concerns relating to this or other developments.
